Fit Moms For Life Home Workout DVDs: Why Should you Invest in Them?

I received a great email from: Kathryn.

Subject: Why should I  choose your workout?
A friend suggested your workouts so I checked out your website.  I enjoy working out in my home to DVDs, prefer Boot camp workouts, weight training over dancy workouts.  I would consider your buddy workout, but will be doing them alone as I work out at 5:30 a.m.  I could buy 4 dvds for closer to $10 each, so convince me why I should buy your 4 for $75.  Also consider your Fit Moms for Life set.  What does this dvd set offer me to spend that amount each month?”

Kathryn, I also forgot to mention that in the past few years since I started creating DVDs I have been blessed to have sold more than 10,000.  Of those 10,000 I have only had one person ask for  refund.  This is something I am very proud of!

For those of you interested in the DVDs, click on any of the DVD images to the left.

If you have questions about what DVD program I would recommend for you, please email me directly at dustinmaherfitness@gmail.com and write a paragraph about your situation and goals and I will recommend what I feel is best.

Coming Together as a Community

Don’t ask me how I found this video that was from the 1980′s, but it is one of the neatest videos I have ever come across.  It really shows the power of community and the power of supporting one another for a common cause.  After watching the video I have some thoughts on how it pertains to you, and then please add your comment in the section below.

The past year has really shown me the power of numbers and the power of people coming together for a common cause.  Thinking back to 9/11 and how America, and in particular NYC, pulled together and took care and supported one another, is a true testament of what can be done and accomplished when we are all reaching for a common goal.  The opposite can be true, and we don’t have to look any further than the political mess we have going on right now.  The politicians don’t have similar goals and agendas and therefore are doing very little in the way of positive change.

So what does this have to do with you, and your fitness?  I have talked plenty of times before about the importance, dare I say necessity, of a strong support group.  Not building a support group around you is like what it talks about in the Bible regarding building a house on the sand.  The house will stay standing as long as the conditions are perfect, but the moment that the wind starts to blow and the waves start crashing over, the home will be destroyed.  Same goes with your health.  If you were in a perfect environment all day that promoted healthy behavior, life would be pretty easy.  Just look at how successful those who are at the Biggest Loser ranch.  But what happens when you get a divorce, or get diagnosed with cancer, or your kid breaks his arm, or your husband loses his job?  In times of struggle, is when the community you have created around you becomes so important.

In the past year I have really shifted my day to day life.  If you saw me about a year ago, I would have been in the gym training clients close to 40 hours per week.  Now I train about 16, 45 minute sessions per week and spend about 5 hours per day on the phone, on skype, or on the computer doing interviews and connecting with people.  I realized awhile ago that I am only one person who can do so much, but if I share a common goal or message with others, they can get behind it and create excitement that they share with their friends.  The ripple effect can spread quickly and before we know it, we have built strong communities of people seeking a common goal.

That is why my upcoming book ends with a couple chapters on building your own support group, and why I feel so passionately about creating as many Fit Moms For Life community groups around the world as possible.

I am tired of seeing America turned into the place where unhealthy communities dominate the landscape.  I hope this is a rally call for all of you to take responsibility and get involved in your communities to help those around you live the healthiest, and happiest life possible.

Question of the Day:  What did this video teach you or get you thinking about?  Please comment below.

You Must Be 100% Committed

I like this video for a couple reasons.  First I like all the different exercises that he did and got some ideas for workouts to give my clients as well as workouts for myself.  Second I think this is a great video to show your kids that it takes hard work and sacrifice to achieve certain things, whether that is in sports or in life.  Lastly I think it is a great reminder for all of us, that if we are starting a new exercise program, starting a business, raising kids, or whatever else, you MUST be committed.  The one thing I don’t agree with is the lack of sleep thing, maybe for a little bit, but if you consistently are getting a few hours of sleep a night, bad things will happen to your body.  Sleep is important.

When I get asked the question, what do my most successful clients do that the others don’t do, and my answer is always the same… they are 100% committed to the program and getting results.  I didn’t say 100% perfect, I said committed.  Being committed doesn’t mean that you will slip up, but it means getting right back up and doing what you know you need to do to reach the weight loss or fitness goal.

Enjoy the video!

Chrystal Getz

I found out about Chrystal when researching other great blogs helping people get in shape.  I liked her story and asked her to write a blog post from me.  She represents a lot of clients I see.  They were once quite skinny and didn’t have to watch what they ate and didn’t have to exercise, but slowly the weight crept up and once in the 30s and 40s became a big problem.  I like what Chrystal said about researching.  Don’t just believe what I say.  Read other stuff, some with contradict what I say while some will confirm.  Become a life long student of learn is so key.

Here is Chrystal…

My name is Chrystal Getz. I was lucky enough to be thin my entire life without ever trying. I could eat whatever I wanted and was always told “that’s going to catch up to you”. I was in my 20s and knew everything so I didn’t listen. Since I didn’t have to work to be a certain size, fitness was not a part of my life and healthy eating never crossed my mind.

Of course my unhealthy lifestyle did catch up with me and I gained weight. It was only a little at first. I wasn’t too concerned about going up a pant size. I would just buy one in that size and then work on getting the weight off. Tomorrow. Except one bigger size led to another bigger size and so on. Then came marriage and…you guessed it, two little girls in a baby carriage (three years apart).

A few more years went by and I got sick of being out of shape. I was carrying extra weight from both pregnancies and marital bliss. Not blissful about my weight, I decided I wanted to lose about 30 pounds. I announced it to everyone. That’s what all the articles I’ve read say to do, after all. I was holding myself accountable. The reaction from friends and co-workers was mixed. Some said I didn’t have 30 pounds to lose. Others just said, “yeah right”. I wasn’t exactly the picture of fitness at the time. I was known for drinking Bud Light and putting bacon in every dish I made. But, I was determined.

So, I started running – very slowly. Actually, I started walking. I started seeing results and knew I could do more. With the help of the C25K program, I started running. Before I knew it, the weight started coming off and I became addicted to feeling healthy. Not only that, but I could run pretty darn fast (comparatively speaking) and even completed a few 5ks. Once I realized working out wouldn’t kill me, I also added spinning classes, yoga, strength training and anything else that sounded fun to my fitness repertoire.

When I do something, I go all in. So over the last few years I’ve researched the crap out of fitness and nutrition. I subscribe to 6 fitness magazines. I read every online article I can squeeze into my day. I even decided to get my personal training certification – just for the information I would obtain by doing so. Training is a hobby I love. Helping people meet their goals is far more gratifying than I ever could have imagined. I’ve discovered things that work….and a lot of things that don’t. I certainly don’t know everything, but I’d love to share the things I do.

More information and a daily dose of inspiration can be found on my facebook page at facebook.com/FitnessGetzEasy or at my website fitnessgetzeasy.com.

Fit Moms For Life Prairie Du Sac

My awesome assistant Renee

This weekend I visited a small town on the Wisconsin River called Prairie Du Sac.  A woman named Sue decided that she wanted to start up her own Fit Moms For Life community group.  As you will hear in the interview, Sue has very little workout background and no special degree related to fitness.  What she does have is a desire to get in better shape and meet new people in her community.  We had 19 women show up for a 45 minute bootcamp and then a 45 minute talk I gave on what it takes to transform your body and stay that way for the rest of your life.  Even after it was over, many women stayed an additional half hour just chatting.  Out of this kickoff at least 2 groups formed, one that will meet in the evenings and one that will meet in the mornings.

Because they will be using my DVDs, there is no need for a specialized trainer to be there.

Not only did we get to share tons of laughs, but we started to form friendships that will hopefully continue to grow.  If this sounds like something you might be interested in getting into your community email fitmomfl@gmail.com and I will get some info to you on starting your own group.  Free to start!

In the past 2 weeks we have had about 30 new moms express interest in starting a group!  I went out to lunch with one of my best friends this weekend and we were talking about the vision for the Fit Moms For Life communities and I was telling him that I would like to see 10,000 of these groups started within the next 4 years.  Then I had an even better idea.  What if we had a group for every McDonalds in America.  So I went and looked and there are close to 14,000 McDonalds in the US alone and over 40,000 world wide.  What do you say?  Lets see if we can do it.

Challenging Home Fat Burning Workout

Today my friend Jen asked if she could make a video specifically for those of you who read my blog.  I know that Jen is very intense and we share similar training philosophies, so I said yes.  When I watched the video you are about to watch I was blown away by the creativity and how challenging it is.

Now this isn’t a workout for beginners, but even beginners can modify the workout and still do it.  Try this total body workout at home for yourself.  Maybe even get a few friends to do it with you.

If you enjoyed Jen’s workout be sure to check out her new site at www.jennaguirre.com

Kyle Maynard Inspirational Story

I was in Napa Valley with many New York Times bestselling authors and one person that I got to know a little bit was an amazing young guy named Kyle Maynard.  I had heard of him before and seen some of his youtube videos and was so inspired by the way he lived his life.  If we lived our lives like Kyle does, what couldn’t we do?

I had a couple interesting interactions with Kyle.  The first one was in a big castle and we were walking and talking and he was wheeling himself around in the wheel chair and we get to a huge set of rock stairs.  I immediately began to look for someone to help me carry him and his wheelchair down.  As I was looking around for help, Kyle just jumps out of his chair and asks me to carry the chair down.  Kyle starts hopping down the stairs and a very fast rate and beats me down to the bottom.  Amazing!

Next interaction was at breakfast.  I hadn’t seen the video you are about to watch and didn’t know how well he could use his upperbody.  So I though I might have to help him eat.  Heck no…  He grabs his fork and begins to gracefully eat his eggs, balancing huge fork full of food and bringing it to his mouth with precision.  I was a little concerned about him trying to drink his juice that the waiter had filled to the brim, but once again his control and stability was better than most people with arms and hands.

Besides his amazing adaptations, Kyle is one of the humblest and kindest men I have met, a guy you would just love to spend time with and hang out with.  I hope to get to spend more time with Kyle in the future.

Kyle has more books in the works, but his next big project is to climb Mount Kilimanjaro.  At 19,000 plus feet this is an incredibly challenging task for anyone.  But someone with no arms and no legs, most would say impossible.  But I wouldn’t bet against Kyle reaching the top.  In fact, I expect him to reach the top, because Kyle won’t quit.

How are you at giving 100% and not quitting?  My challenge to myself and to you is to have a no quit attitude for your life and just see what you can achieve.

10 Active Things To Do On Vacation

I just got to Napa Valley, from Vancouver.  I spent 5 days in Vancouver doing tons of active things.  It got me thinking about how to make a vacation more active. One lesson that everyone should know by now is that eating is more important than exercise when it comes to losing weight. Despite the fact that I was more active in these 5 days then anytime this year, I still gained 4 lbs because I allowed myself to eat whatever I wanted to, which included lots of sugar. Never get too cocky to think you can eat whatever you want because you are active, it will always come back to bite you, and it usually does in the butt and stomach areas. :)

Check out this video of a little bit of my hiking, and then I will share with you 10 active things you can do on a vacation.  I would love to hear what you like to do for activities.

1.  Hiking

2.  Biking around a city instead of taking a sight seeing bus.

3.  Canoeing or kayaking

4.  Jogging around a city

5.  Climb the tallest building in the city

6.  Find a park and do a workout on the equipement

7.  Go water skiing or wakeboarding

8.  Surfing or knee board

9.  horseback riding (okay not that strenuous, but tell that to your butt and inner thighs)

10.  Find a class like yoga or specialty class at a gym and do a one session drop in.

I would love to hear what you do on your vacations to stay active.

Bill Phillips Transformation

Bill and I

I just got back from 5 days in Austin, Texas and had the priviledge of meeting one of my heroes in my life Bill Phillips.  When I was in around 9th or 10th grade I ready Body For Life for the first time and was blown away by the knowledge.  It was different than what I had heard before.  It taught that weights, not cardio was the key to fat loss. (So for the thousands of you who do my program and love the fact that we don’t do cardio longer than 60 seconds at a time can thank Bill).  Then during the massive success of his book that sold millions of copies, I noticed BFL support groups popping up all over the place.  This gave me my idea for the Fit Moms For Life community idea.

Bill shared with great passion and vigor his challenge to make our nation, which is dead last in health, to first in health.  With the success of Body For Life, EAS, and many other businesses, Bill would never have to work another day in his life.  But his desire to help people get out of massive amounts of pain in their lives and live their best life, gets him up each and everyday excited!

I got the opportunity to share with Bill my vision for a million mom community that meets in small groups around the country, to not only workout and keep each other accountable for what they eat, but also a community that cares deeply for one another and aids in the improvement of all areas of their life.  Bill said that he would like to have me on his weekly transformation show to share what Fit Moms For Life is doing.  Which is incredibly exciting to me.

So Bill and I are going to talk further about helping each other get our messages out to the world.
