Glad Tidings I Bring…

Santa Workout?

Dustin recently stated that we should share ways that his program or website have influenced us or inspired us so today I thought I would share that with you.

Years ago I loved to write. In fact, I thought that writing would someday be my profession. However, upon entering the real world of work and adult pressures I found that the time I would use to write slowly dwindled. When I did have time I was too tired, couldn’t think of a topic, needed paper, anything not to do it. I don’t know what happened. Once my children came along I did start to create stories for them but, for some reason, I could never bring myself to write them down. Then two things happened. First, I took a writing class for teachers that would help us teach the process of writing more effectively for our students. Secondly, I started boot camp.

Who would have guessed that the two would make a perfect combination for me. I decided to blog my journey through the summer bootcamp at Elver Park. I have blogged about every workout I attended during that time.

Also, on his blog Dustin will frequently pose questions that force us to reevaluate the choices we have made and whether or not our life has taken the direction we had hoped it would. Thanks to these challenges, I’m now writing again. I’m really out of practice but my wife loves seeing me work at it and I get to share with you good people as well. Luckily I am also finding that people are reading my writings as well. A member of the parent community at my school recently stopped by my computer lab to let me know she has been reading my blogs and enjoying them! How cool is that?

Finally, in closing, I wanted to leave you with 2 slightly altered Christmas carols to enjoy and (hopefully) inspire you this holiday season. Have a very Merry Christmas and a joyous New Year!

Light Christmas

I’m dreaming of a light Christmas
Just like the ones I used to know
When I was in my twenties
And there was time a-plenty
For off to the gym then I could go.

I’m dreaming of a light Christmas
While every Christmas treat I fight
May my will power
get me through the night
so that all my Christmases are light!

Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas

Have yourself a merry little Christmas
May your weight be light
Looking at the scale
Shouldn’t be a fright.

Have yourself a merry little Christmas
Don’t just consider what you weigh
Your clothes may fit better
than they did yesterday.

Here we are, in the early morn
slowly brightening morn, so sore.
Workout friends who dare sweat with  us,
encouragement share with us, for shore.

Through the months
we’ll exercise together,
staying inside until
spring time’s come and we have to run up Elver hill .
But have yourself a merry little Christmas still.

  3. Great blog, Roger! Glad you are back to doing what you enjoy!

  4. Nice touch with the Christmas carols Roger! That’s very good I must admit. Tip my hat to you for being original. Best wishes this holiday sesason…Shane

  5. LOVE the new Christmas Carols!! Thanks for an uplifting blog. Photography is a hobby of mine, but life gets in the way of me snapping as many pics as I would like. Good to know I always have the option to get back to it at anytime. Glad that you are back to writing!!

    Happy Holidays!!

  6. Thanks for the comments. I truly appreciate them. It is great to be writing again. My son and I were talking about the stories that I used to tell him and he asked me if I would write one down and give it to him for a Christmas present. Now that’s a challenge!
