Try Something Extreme!

Today’s video is certainly entertaining and will provide you with some smiles watching me not only get dominated by John, but really experiencing some good pain along the way.  (I have been told by many of you that you love watch me hurt, you sick individuals :) )

This is the second to last video I have for you with John and I.  We had been going hard for about 45 minutes filming when we got to this one.

Before the video, I want to talk about pushing yourself past limitations.  These limitations can be both mental and physical.  In nearly every case, the most successful weight loss clients, and highest level athletes that I have worked with, all possess this trait.  It is the can-do-attitude and belief that they can do anything, and if they can’t do it, they will try.

An excuse I hear a lot when clients don’t want to challenge themselves is that they are afraid they are going to get hurt.  Being safe and staying healthy is one of my most important goals for my clients.  I am not talking about doing anything stupid and foolish, but at some point you need to push your body past what it is use to.  If you do it correctly it shouldn’t cause you any injuries, but some use that as a reason to not do it at all.  Sure there is always a small chance of something happening, but the cost of not trying is much worse.

How do you think I learned how to do all that crazy stuff standing on a ball? It took some practice and a few very exciting falls!

I recently had a new bootcamper who came to class, she wasn’t too overweight, maybe could have lost 20 lbs or so, but mostly had NO muscle tone on her body.  She struggled through the workout, but actually did quite well, I was very impressed.  The next day I received an email that this person felt overwhelmed and was challenged too much and wanted to quit.  After some back and forth conversation she decided she didn’t want to continue, but rather listen to a family member who was a trainer who told her to walk for 30 minutes on a treadmill and do some crunches and lunges.  I truly wish this person the best of luck, but gladly refunded her the money and sent her on her way.  She was obviously not ready for creating massive change in her life and wasn’t ready to work hard to get it.  Anybody can walk for 30 minutes on a treadmill and do a few crunches, but what will that get them?  Very little. MamaTone: This Mission Behind It

Last week ABC came to MamaTone to do a story for the evening and morning news.  Kim Sveum, did an awesome job reporting the story.  Kim is a mother of two, and just as passionate as I am, at helping moms and families succeed in life.  She produces the bi-weekly “Parenting Project,” from channel 27 news, in Madison, Wisconsin.  Be sure to check out her blog.

[youtube UXcM9zvtQWk]

This story does a great job at showing why I created MamaTone, and the underlying inspiration behind it.  Sure, it is an exercise and nutritional program that will help moms shed inches and tone muscle.  But, it is more about the community aspect and teaching moms that if they don’t take care of themselves, nobody else will, and all other relationships will suffer because of it.

I am SO proud of every mom in MamaTone, every bootcamper in Fit Fun Bootcamps, and every small group client I have.  For those of you who haven’t trained with me, it is hard to know exactly how difficult it is, and how hard the workouts are, but for those who stick with it, great rewards come!

So thank you everyone for inspiring me to work harder and be a better person!

Jody’s Amazing Fat Loss Transformation on NBC

A couple weeks ago I shared the story about Jody, a mom who had five kids who lost nearly 50 lbs in the past 7 months.  Click here to read her story. NBC heard about the story and featured her in my fitness segment.  This amazing fat loss transformation shows how anybody who works hard and is committed to exercise and eating healthy can achieve amazing results!  I received many emails and calls from people after they watched this on NBC, wanting to know more about what all jody has done.

[youtube NoxC6se9uWM]

Here are some of jody’s responses to questions that were asked by people.

Regarding Kate’s questions…When I was taking MamaTone, I was working out at least 2 days per week (3 tops). With Bootcamp, 3 days a week. They are only 6 weeks long, so you HAVE to go the 3 days to really get Continue Reading →

Fit Fun Madison Bootcamps Help Todd Drop 27 lbs in 6 Weeks!

I didn’t think I could see any bigger results than I have seen so far in my Fit Fun Bootcamps, but I was wrong!  It just goes to show what anyone is capable of IF they apply the techniques I teach and go after then 100%.  You might not lose close to 5 lbs a week, but you will greatly improve.  Todd had the right ingredients in him to make this change: he was ready, he was mentally prepared, he had a plan, he was motivated, and he had the right attitude.  Keep in mind, Todd started this around Christmas time when everyone says they can’t lose weight.

So here is Todd’s amazing story in his own words!

As ‘before and after pictures’ tell part of a story, these are BEFORE and WORK IN PROGRESS pictures. And here is more to the story.

I have been running for the last 6 years on a regular basis.  EXACTLY 3.8 miles 3 to 4 times a week (The same route every day) my legs were getting fatigued and the weight just going up.

In late November I heard Dustin Maher on Wisconsin Public Radio and was impressed with how he was able to answer caller’s questions.  It wasn’t until Friday Dec 12th that I decided I had to get the help of and outside party.  I signed up for FIT FUN BOOTCAMP to start on Monday.  This would be the FIRST time I have ever joined a workout group much less going to a health club.  When I told my family and friends what I was about to do, I just got Blank stares. (I think they all thought I was kidding) Continue Reading →

Amazing Fat Loss Transformation: Cardio Queen Sees Light of Day!

The story I am about to share with you is an all too common story. It is a client who came to me because she was frustrated that her body was holding on to so much fat, despite the fact that she was doing endless amounts of cardio and trying to eat healthy. After sitting down with her and analyzing her exercise and eating habits, it became clear that she was eating away her muscle with her endless cardio and very low calorie diets. My recommendations to her was to consume much more lean protein and stop all long distance cardio and instead weight train 3X per week for 45 minutes, do 20 minutes of high intensity cardio 2X per week, and eat more lean protein and supplement with protein drinks.

She took my advice and in the past year has completely transformed her body.  One of the things that set her apart, was her work ethic and intensity in the gym.  She wasn’t afraid to work hard, sweat, and even let out some soft grunts.  At one point she told me to make her puke, so I did… TWICE!  When she started to workout she wasn’t able to even do one pushup!  How things can change in only a year!

Here is her story in her own words!

“Everyone has heard of the “Freshman 15;” well, I apparently decided to take it a step further and experienced something closer to the “Freshmen 20!” But I didn’t stop there, over the next few years, I continued to gain more weight.  Even after college, the weight continued to pile on, reaching an all-time high for me of 149lbs. During this time, I was quite the “Cardio Queen.”  I would spend from 1.5 to 2 hours/day, 3-4 days/week doing any variety of cardio (treadmill, bike, elliptical, stair climber).  This wasn’t exactly high-intensity cardio, either (obviously, I would not be able to keep that up for 1.5-2 hours!).  Despite my numerous hours at the gym, engaged in my Cardio Queen activities, I couldn’t lose any weight…and more specifically, couldn’t lose any fat!

After years of frustration and low self-esteem, I signed up for Dustin’s Core Class.  I always thought I had a strong core, after all I could do countless crunches!  Boy, was I wrong!  Dustin’s class taught me how weak I really was…core and all.  After a month of Core Class, I noticed my body was getting stronger, but I wanted to kick it up a notch.  I signed up for small group personal training.  Before my first session with Dustin, he took my body fat, which surprised me at 25%.  I was shocked at how high it was, and I couldn’t help but wonder what it was before I started Core Class!  Continue Reading →

An Inspiring Weight Loss Transformation

Marsue close to 200 lbs

Marsue close to 200 lbs

I love my job!  Seeing people realize goals that they only dreamed about is very fulfilling and uplifting for me.  Improving ones self-confidence, self-image, and self-esteem is something that is hard to put a price tag on.  I met

Marsue 9 months later at 117

Marsue 9 months later at 117

Marsue awhile back at my grocery shopping tour.  She was kind and quiet, little did I know that she had had a fire lit under her for the past few months.  She was on a life transformation and I was fortunate to cross paths with her.  She joined Fit Fun Bootcamp www.madisonbootcamps.com and continued her amazing journey.  Each session I give her the heaviest weights, and the most progressed form of each exercise and Marsue quietly accepts each challenge I have given her. It has been amazing to see the physical transformation that has occurred in Marsue, some of her friends and previous acquaintences hardly recognize her now.  The physical transformation is great, but I am sure if you would ask Marsue, the internal transformation is even more powerful!  So here is Marsue’s story in her own words.  If you are interested in bootcamps visit www.madisonbootcamps.com

“A little less than a year ago I was 185 pounds, had no energy, had daily backaches and after getting home from work spent many evenings in front of the television.   I was miserable and had finally got it through my head that I needed to make a change.   I started taking MMA classes at Karate America along with my husband and daughter.  It wasn’t easy, but with a combination of setting a goal: ‘Lose weight and eat healthier’, exercise: ‘karate 4 days a week’, eating correctly ‘portion control and cutting out junk food’ and a good support system: ‘my husband and karate instructor’, I was able to loose 40 lbs in about 5 months.  At that point I was feeling much better but wanted to take it to the next level.   I was introduced to Dustin at a ‘Grocery Store Tour’ that was set up through karate. I started getting his emails, reading his blogs and when the Fit Fun Bootcamps started up in McFarland, found that I was hauling myself out of bed at 5:00 in the morning to work out and actually looking forward to it.  It has been 17 weeks since I started the bootcamps.  I have lost another 20+ pounds, lost 2 1/2 inches from my waist, have significantly increased my upper body strength, have tons of energy, no backaches and actually like myself again.  Bootcamps have allowed me to make new friends and build a great support group while  at the same time giving me individual attention ,  support  and motivation .   They work you hard, but it is well worth it.  At 44, I am in better shape than I have been in since playing collegiate volleyball.  I can’t wait to get to my next workout.”

Car Pushing For Fat Burning Workout

One of the biggest reasons Fit Fun Bootcamps has been such a big hit (besides the great results and community that is built) is the fun and unique factor.  In this video I have two bootcampers Lauren and Amy who have been coming to Fit Fun Bootcamp for about 9 months and have seen some incredible toning and increases in their athletic performance.

Check it out.

Pushing cars is a great family activity that the kids love to do as well.  Plus you will never be worried about running out of gas again because you know you can push it :)

If you are doing this with kids, please be safe and push on a flat area and make sure someone is near the brake in case something happens. Continue Reading →
