Fit Moms For Life Book Party: Crystal’s Transformation

Crystal before she started my program

Crystal now 18 months later

Crystal currently holds the biggest weight loss of any of my clients.  It has been an honor to see her transformation over the past two years.  One of the things I love about Crystal is that she loves to learn.  She has studied exercise and nutrition so much that she can have extremely in depth and intelligent conversations about pretty much any nutritional topic.  She certainly has learned that knowledge is power.  Crystal also has the gift of communication and has been inspiring her friends and family to take their health and fitness to the next level.  She also has an amazing blog that you should check out at theyellowspace.com.

Crystal has been part of Fit Fun Bootcamps for about 18 months and she is a perfect example that full transformation can come to a person when they make it a big enough priority and have a big enough “WHY.”

Please share this video with anyone you think would be inspired by it to make change.

You might be wondering what it type of food someone would eat to lose that much weight and keep it off.  Crystal has been generous enough to post some of her favorite recipes.

-Stuffed peppers, sauteed zucchini, and cooked squash

-Lemon pepper chicken, swiss chard, brussel sprouts, and everyday meatloaf

-Spaghetti meat sauce, spaghetti squash, and spice rubbed roasted chicken

If you enjoyed Crystal’s story and the recipes, pick up a copy of my book Fit Moms For Life for 30 more transformational stories and many more recipes and meal plans.

Random Thoughts

Posted by Roger, a contributor to this blog.

Got up nice and early this morning to attend Memorial Day Boot Camp. It was kind of a humid morning but there was a little breeze so all was good. Afterwards I had a chance to reflect a bit since no work today. Nothing particularly profound but thought I ‘d share them with you anyways! Continue Reading →

Lessons Learned from Bootcamp

Posted by Roger, a contributor to this blog.

I woke up pretty rested today. The television said it was 44 degrees out so I figured that’s not too bad. A hoodie and sweatpants should do the job. Ok workout, I thought, here I come!

11 Fat Burning, Muscle Toning, Tummy Tightening Exercises

We had a great time with our Saturday morning outdoor bootcamp kickoff.  There were 90 positive and hard working bootcampers that came out and worked hard, burned calories, improved their cardiovascular fitness, strengthened their core, toned their muscles, and met tons of new people.

One of my highlights was the potluck that we had afterwards.  Great food and community building.  I met so many amazing people, but I wanted to give a couple specific shout outs.

1.  I will keep this anonymous, but a husband of one of my bootcampers pulled me aside and wanted to thank me for this program and how amazing it has been for his wife.  She not only has lost a couple sizes, but their relationship is better, she is more positive, happier, confident, and more adventurous.  I think he summed it up quite well, the benefits of a program based on strength training, burst training, proper nutrition, and community.

If you don’t have this type of program in your area, start your own Fit Moms For Life group up.

Also a shout out to Crystal who came back from Chicago for the workout.  She started Fit Fun Bootcamps 17 months ago, and recently moved back to Chicago.  She has lost 102 lbs.  I didn’t even know she was there until the end of the workout after someone told me.  I didn’t even recognize her!

Ok, not a good pic with the lighting, but some of our great trainers

Finally I want to thank all my amazing trainers for being there.  We had 9 out of the 14 trainers there volunteering their time and energy.  I couldn’t do what I do without you!

Enjoy the video, hopefully you will pick up on some new moves to try at home.

-High knees

-Side shuffle

-Squat jumps

-Sprinting up hill

-Dumbbell swings

-Side lunge with db

-Bicycles

-Front plank

-Side plank

-V sits

-Scorpion pushups

Hello, I’m Back

Posted by Roger, a contributor to this blog.

Me, after my first day back!

It’s been a while but I’m finally back at fitness boot camp. As some of you may remember I had a rather inauspicious beginning to 2011.  Well, after finally getting my car situation resolved and my back settling down I was all ready to return and then…I got sick. Was out of work for 3 1/2 days. Looking on the bright side, I did miss two of my heavier class loads.

One thing that was definitely reinforced during this time was that one cannot always trust the scale. Continue Reading →

A Time for Giving

This post is from Roger, a regular contributor to this blog.

Happy Holidays Everyone. I hope you all have a Merry Christmas and a joyous and safe New Year.

Christmas is truly a season for giving. I have found as I’ve gotten older that it really is so much more meaningful to give than to receive. So, in order to spread joy this season, I’m going to give you that opportunity! So many of you have been involved in health and wellness for such a long time that I’m hoping you might be able to give me some suggestions and advice on a couple of things. Continue Reading →

Glad Tidings I Bring…

Santa Workout?

Posted by Roger, a contributor to this blog.

Dustin recently stated that we should share ways that his program or website have influenced us or inspired us so today I thought I would share that with you.

Years ago I loved to write. In fact, I thought that writing would someday be my profession. However, upon entering the real world of work and adult pressures I found that the time I would use to write slowly dwindled. When I did have time I was too tired, couldn’t think of a topic, needed paper, anything not to do it. I don’t know what happened. Once my children came along I did start to create stories for them but, for some reason, I could never bring myself to write them down. Then two things happened. First, I took a writing class for teachers that would help us teach the process of writing more effectively for our students. Secondly, I started boot camp. Continue Reading →

Challenges and Obstacles

Roger after his first day of bootcamp.

Posted by Roger, a contributor to this blog.

Today was a hard bootcamp. Dustin told us at the beginning that it would be so I braced myself for it. Unfortunately, at the end, I was very disappointed with myself because I don’t feel I had one of my better days. In fact, I felt as sore, tired, and nauseous as I did after my first day of bootcamp 5 months ago.

We did the bar workout and it was great at first. Dustin partnered me up with another guy and we used an amount of weight that we had used previously that was challenging yet within my ability. We then broke and moved to cardio for about 5 minutes. We used an incline of 15 degrees and a speed that I again had used previously. This time I didn’t do as well. For some reason I just couldn’t kick it out there. The rest of class went pretty much the same way. I was doing some things that I had done well before that today I just couldn’t do. Or at least not for very long. As a result I had to ask myself what was the problem? Continue Reading →

“Exercise gives you endorphins. Endorphins make people happy. Happy people just don’t shoot their husbands…they just don’t.”–Elle Woods, Legally Blonde

A couple of months ago, Dustin posted a story and comments about why people exercise.  Well, this is one of the reasons why.  Continue Reading →

Fit Fun Bootcamp-You Are There

Posted by Roger, a contributor to Dustin’s Blog

In June of 2010, my wife and I finally joined Dustin’s Fit Fun Bootcamp. The camp we attended met at 5:30 am. I knew that anyone coming to a class that early in the morning had to be serious about what they were doing. Now I am not a morning person. I find the evening much more interesting so I wasn’t sure how this would all work out.

Well, it didn’t turn out to be as difficult to get up as I imagined. I went to every camp except 2 when I was out of town. One time there were only 3 of us (holiday weekend) so lots of individual attention that day. I blogged every bootcamp I attended during the summer months. If you are interested in reading about my summer journey and my progress, please feel free to visit my other blog. Continue Reading →
