Top 4 Reasons Why You Aren’t Losing Weight

Today I had my monthly fitness show on NBC and we talked about the common beliefs and traps people fall into when trying to lose weight.

Todd was my guest today, and he has done an amazing job the past 10 weeks at Fit Fun Bootcamp, dropping 40 lbs. He is truly a different person then before! It has rippled down to his family and his wife has lost 15 lbs in the past 8 weeks!

Todd was featured about a month ago. Click here to read more of his story and specific advice he gave.

To recap, the top 4 reasons why you aren’t losing weight.

1. Eating too big of portions. (ok, this is an obvious one!)

2. Not eating frequently enough. (If you are eating more frequently, you will be less likely to binge eat)

3. Believing that because you are working out, you can eat whatever you want. It is harder to work off a 300 calorie candy bar then to not eat it in the first place.

4. Doing endless cardio instead of weights.

Please comment on this video in the box below. If you have questions for Todd, he would be happy to answer them.

I’m working on all 4 points. Todd, nice job! Wow, your second exercise demo was super fluid, well done.

Dustin, I so appreciate hearing your advice of doing “less cardio & more weights”. Sounds good to me — Bring it on !! Wow, Todd !! I re-read your story and it looks like you had “turned back the clock”. You look wonderful !! I just had my first boot camp session today in McFarland. I’ll be back on Thursday and look forward to seeing my own transformation in the next 6-8 weeks…

Thanks for the advice, very helpful. Do you have any suggestions for getting started with weights? There are so many different types of exercises I know it’s possible to do, I’m a little overwhelmed at figuring out a kind of weight program (I’ve never lifted seriously before, just the “pink barbie” hand weights on occasion).

Uh…Todd, I am noticing you forgot to mention how inspiring (and entertaining!) the people are who you work out with at Boot Camp. :)
We are all very proud of you!
And, I hadn’t heard about your wife! Yea!

That was neat, having a guy on the morning show–that should bring in a few more men to Bootcamp, eh? Todd, you look 10 yrs. younger than your Dec. picture!! And that second exercise-I wouldn’t even know where to begin, trying to do such a coordinated move that you did so smoothly :) ! Your wife rocks, quietly losing her lbs. behind the scenes-ha! Maybe she has Dustin’s home workout DVD and secretly works out when you aren’t around! :) What great role models both of you are for your son…betcha’ he brags on you to his friends! In rereading your story, I was reminded of your Ronald McDonald donations–truly inspiring!!

    Alicia-
Whoops, I forgot there was a blog that went along with this whole TV thing.
Don’t feel bad that I forgot to say good things about my Bootcamp friends, But this should make you feel better. When I WON the showcase on “The Price is Right” I forgot to invite my girlfriend up on stage with me! What a BONE HEAD. She foregave me and is now my wife.
Can’t wait to get back for next Wed workout

    Mom-
I Agree with looking younger. I keep looking at the video thinking it’s a picture of someone else. I’m loviing it that Adrienne has jump on board with me in this lifestyle change. I can hardly wait to see the total numbers by Dec 2009. For the past couple of weeks after the second session, I’ve been doing 6 extra minutes on the stepper for the Ronald Kids. it’s very motivating for me.
Thanks for all the nice words and it was a real pleasure meeting you at Bootcamp a couple weeks ago

    Emily,

I will be coming out with monthly DVDs very shortly that will have a workout routine that you can do with weights.

Be sure to be signed up for my newsletter for details coming soon!

Dustin, I also heard you on WPR and I signed-up for your tips and encouragement. However, I’m a Grand Mom
58 years-old and trying to lose this weight AgaIN! Any advice for the burst training for me? I will purchase your videos when they come available. Thank You. P.S. I wish I lived in Mad Town!

    Deb,

Thanks for signing up for the newsletter! Similar principals can still apply, just watch the impact of the activity. If you have a gym, ellipticals are great, speed walking up a hill, swimming, running in deep water, marching in place with a weight above the head. Those are just a few of the options available! I can’t wait for the DVDs to be released… We are just working on the site and logos and such!
