If you could ask me 3 questions….

I thought for today’s post I would pose a question.  Please answer this question as a comment on this blog.  From these comments on the post I will begin to answer them in the upcoming weeks.

Question:  If you could ask me 3 questions that you might have about fitness, nutrition, motivation, or any other health related topic, what would they be?  This could be questions that you have heard different answers to or questions that you have never heard asked.  I look forward to answering or finding the best answers that science and real life experience have to offer!

Keep moving,

Dustin

So far I am working out by myself at the “Y”; when I do
cardio on the bike and tredmill, using burst training, does that take care of the thing where you need to increase weights or the number of reps to improve….like, the burst style means you don’t have to
constantly increase the length of time you run, for example, right?? I noticed on your short video clips, you only rested for 10 seconds between bursts-is that
important to keep it that short, to keep the heart rate
up, or can you rest longer? :)
    Thanks!

One thing that would be interesting to know is if you stop working out, how long (or how little) does it take to lose muscle? I’ve heard that it takes as little as a month for your body to revert and to be back at square one, so to speak.

Also, as far as nutrition goes, what would you recommend to a vegan or someone who is trying to cut out animal products? Usually I hear a lot about protein, but it seems to assume you will be getting that from meat.

    Thanks!

What is the best thing to eat for a snack, later at night, assuming you just finished a workout?

With regards to eating more ‘smaller’ meals throughout the day. Does that mean you can actually eat a bit more because it keeps your metabolism up during the day, or does it just mean you should spread your normal meals out?

I have a hard time getting all my vegetables in for the day. How effective are the ‘Greens’ supplements that I have seen?

Watched the segment on NBC15 today – you guys did great. What a cute little girl!

    Okay 3 questions:
What vitamins do you recommend taking on a daily basis?

I am having a hardtime visualizing my goal weight. I haven’t been there since early teen years. Do you know of a website or anything where you could punch in a weight and height and get an example of what that looks like on a real person? Or any other way to visualize an outcome?

Best snacks or meals pre and post workout?

    Thanks much, Dustin!

I’d like your opinion on the best aerobic exercise for a woman with plantar fascitis. Because of this condition, running is difficult for me (both outside and on a treadmill). Are there exercises that I can do at home that would raise my heart rate and help me lose weight? Thanks.

You have said you consume multiple protein shakes every day. Do you have multiple recipes for them? How much protein do you put in them?

Thanks a lot for the great questions! I will be using these questions for some of my upcoming blogs so stay patient and I will get to all of the questions. Stay active on the blog, it is with your help that I can help give more content out!

Which 3 areas of the body are most responsive to exercise and toning? I heard the good old gluteus maximus toned quickly, but maybe that was just made up? :-) Thanks!

    Dustin -
I am beginning to wonder if I will ever be able to get rid of my post baby stomach. I should not blame having my son, my stomach looked better 6 weeks after having him then it does now. All my problems came from abandoning the gym for over a year after having my son. You do not speak highly of crunches but what is really going to get rid of this extra layer of fat I have?

Ditto on the best evening snack – we eat dinner between 5-530pm and I always find I am hungry again around 8-830.

    Thanks
    Dawn

I’ve worked with weights for years in the local YMCA class. However, I don’t see any muscle definition though. Does it mean I’m NOT lifting enough weights?

    Hi Dustin,

I read somewhere that sit-ups are not good for women who have a split abdominal wall muscle from pregnancy. Is this true? I’m wondering about this because I got this split with my first pregnancy 20 yrs ago. and with each one of my subsequent pregnancies (i.e. 2), the opening became wider. 13 years after my last pregnancy, this opening is not as wide as it used to be. While I don’t expect it to close up, I wonder if there are specific exercises that I (and other women with this condition) can do to make sure that I am toning my abs safely.
    Thanks,
    –Emilie
